Weathervane Playhouse and State Farm Insurance present the “perfect” Tony Award winning musical “My Fair Lady.” “My Fair Lady” runs June 3 – 12 at 8pm. There will be a matinee performance on Saturday, June 12 at 2pm. Tickets are $25 for adults, $23 for senior citizens and students and $15 for children under 12. My Fair Lady opens summer at newly renovated Weathervane Playhouse
To celebrate the 42nd season, Weathervane Playhouse in Newark, OH is experiencing a first. Under construction since March, the theatre has undergone renovations including significant structural upgrades, aesthetic improvements and the addition of air conditioning all made possible by the successful completion of Phase 1 of Weathervane’s “Next Stage” capital campaign.
Managing Artistic Director Matthew Trombetta said, “This is an extraordinary year for Weathervane, and we couldn’t be more excited. Not only does our 42nd season feature an outstanding slate of productions, but we’re also providing our audience with a much more comfortable environment.”
The first of those productions is “My Fair Lady,” which has been called "the perfect musical". With its unforgettable characters and enchanting songs (Wouldn't It Be Loverly?, The Rain in Spain, I Could Have Danced All Night, and I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face), “My Fair Lady” won six Tony Awards (including Best Musical), and became Broadway's longest running musical of its time. Weathervane is proud to present the intimate, revival-version of this show featuring accompaniment by "two pianos, four hands."
“My Fair Lady” takes place in Edwardian England, and revolves around Eliza Doolittle, the Cockney flower girl whose speech is nearly unintelligible to polite society; and Henry Higgins, the proper and pompous voice coach with an ear for language but a tone-deaf heart. With its examinations of class distinctions, society's prejudices, the gender divide, transformation, and identity, the themes of this spectacular musical are as relevant today as they have always been. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience one of the most popular musicals of all time.
Kirstin Flaglor, previously seen as Cinderella in “Into the Woods” and in the title role in “Annie Get Your Gun”, returns for her third season as Eliza. Playing opposite Flaglor is popular Central Ohio actor, Mark Mann. Mann is making his debut on the Weathervane stage. Weathervane is also proud to announce the return of local veteran actors Ellie Unger and Dennis Kohler. “My Fair Lady” marks the 90th Weathervane production for Kohler who has been a fixture in the local arts scene for decades.
Erika Twining, a resident of Granville, OH who directed and choreographed “Thoroughly Modern Millie” and “Sweet Charity” for Weathervane in the past, reprises her role as director and choreographer for “My Fair Lady.”
“My Fair Lady” runs June 3 – June 12 at 8pm. Regular admission tickets are $25 for adults, $23 for senior citizens and students and $15 for children under 12.
