As a benefit to our member theatre companies, the Theatre Roundtable has partnered with Dennis Thompson (Suburban News) to provide critic reviews for all member productions.

Mr. Thompson was a professional theatre critic for the Suburban News Publications for over 20 yrs. and was an important critical voice in Central Ohio. Late in 2008 SNP began cutbacks and Thompson was notified that his work was no longer needed.

At their annual retreat in August of 2009, The Roundtable members expressed real concern about the loss of an important critical voice in Central Ohio, and addressed a possible solution.

After much discussion, the Roundtable unanimously voted to ask Mr. Thompson to become the Roundtable’s Theatre Critic and to publish all of his reviews on the Roundtable’s website.   

Although the Roundtable hosts the reviews, Thompson remains a completely objective voice.  His reviews are completely autonomous and he maintains his high standards for theatre criticism.  He has free reign to review theatre productions of his choosing and posts his criticism directly to the Roundtable website.  The Roundtable does not edit his material, nor does it wish to.  The Roundtable members simply want to provide a medium for Mr. Thompson to continue his work until such a time that SNP is able to bring criticism back to their publications.
